Social entrepreneurship often gets mentioned as a concept, but it is rare to come across entrepreneurs who went ahead and set sail on their journey.
We got together with several alumni from our Impuls programme, a formative cycle for social entrepreneurs, to discuss concrete aspects of their motivations and their day-to-day lives.

What best defines social entrepreneurship in your opinion?
“For us, social entrepreneurship is characterized by the desire to change the world using the means of a company, nothing less.”
OUNI founding team
“Social entrepreneurship should be the norm, instead of a side effort. Social entrepreneurship implies an enterprise that takes its social and environmental responsibilities seriously; this usually emanates as a decision taken by the company’s leaders, but should then be adopted as a common project by everyone in the company.”
Thierry Li, Seabiscuits
“For me, social entrepreneurship is represented by companies that generate profits and that also solve a social and environmental need. Profits are used in a reasonable manner, by reinvesting all or part of it back in society. The company’s purpose should not be to remunerate shareholders."
Emma Zimmer, Nouma
“Social entrepreneurship is a blend of several things: how colleagues work among each other, how volunteers are implicated in the daily processes, and whether you manage to involve your customers in what you do. Both communication and organisation play important parts in this.”
Pit Reichert, Terra
“Social entrepreneurship or a socially responsible enterprise, in my opinion, is an enterprise whose purpose is to serve the common interest, to propose an alternative that will prompt individuals to change their behavior and to guide them towards thoughtful and sustainable consumption habits while respecting man and nature.”
Sandra Siebenaller, Nappilla
